Summary: The communicative approach, used as the preferred approach, is still guiding foreign language teaching today, just as it did in the past. Today, authors of method books follow this approach to help learners acquire and develop knowledge and skills in line with the guidelines of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. New pedagogical and didactic work under the name of the action approach emerged in the 2000s to feed into and extend the communicative approach and achieve better teaching-learning results. The present work explores in greater depth the characteristics of the action-oriented approach, in particular the fact that the learner experiences the language, as well as the features of the action-oriented approach in comparison with the communicative approach.
